Artist Statement: – This painting reflects a historic era of the Sri Lanka
Government Railway, highlighting the vital role of signal lamp assistants.
During the 1980s at Medawachchiya Railway Junction,(Sri Lanka) my father carried out the
duty of manually transporting signal lamps from the station lamp room covering
nearly 12 km round trip to illuminate signal posts for night train operations.
These lamps guided train drivers, ensuring safe arrival and movement within the
railway network. I am proud to have supported him in this task during my
childhood, making this artwork a personal tribute to his dedicated railway
service.
