Gem mining is one of the major income sources in Sri Lanka and brings valuable
foreign income to the country. Many wealthy people own gem lands, but the hard
work is done by poor workers. They spend long hours deep underground, giving
their sweat, strength, and sometimes even their health and lives to find
precious gems for others. This painting highlights their sacrifice, hard work,
inequality, and the hidden human story behind every valuable gemstone.
